Refinishing Bathroom Faucets

It helps to remodel the bathroom so that it is more to our liking. When we first move into a home we will deal with the fixtures and design that it had. However, over time we save up money and finally have the time and resources to make essential changes to it all. One of the first things to go are the faucets.

Sometimes it can be expensive and a pain to try to replace every faucet fixture in the bathroom. One of the best things you can do to change the look without spending a fortune is to refinish them.

First you need to turn the water off that runs to the faucet via the shit off valves. Now relieve the pressure built up inside of them by turning the hot and cold water on.

Take out the hot and cold supply tubes using an adjustable wrench. Unscrew the nuts that are beneath the faucet using a basin wrench. Sometimes the nuts will be stuck because they haven’t been touched in years. A bit of oil will help to loosen them up enough for you to unscrew them.

Take the faucets off, dry them, and put them on top of newspapers or in a well ventilated area. Sand down them all using 220 grit sandpaper. Do not miss any spots are the paint will not be able to stick to it. When you are done use a damp cloth to wipe it all down.

Spray an even coat of metal primer over them and wait a few hours for it to dry completely. When it has dried you need to spray a coat of metal paint onto them and allow it to dry. Apply two coats if needed.

Over the last coat of paint you need to apply a coat of lacquer and allow it to dry. Spray on two coats to make sure you got it all.

Wrap the inlet fillings with Tefton tape to create a tight seal for when you reconnect it all. Make sure that when everything is secure you apply plumber’s putty around them to seal it all together. Turn the water back on and make sure nothing has leaked.
