Bathroom Lighting

The bathroom is where you will get ready each morning and where you will shave or apply your make-up. Without the proper amount of light you risk cutting your face or applying the wrong shade of foundation and in the wrong area. This is the one room where you want a lot of lighting so you can see everything that you are doing.

Natural Lighting

Natural lighting is the most ideal because it helps to save energy. If you can try to design one or two windows in the bathroom that are large and will shine on the sink or vanity. For some privacy you can install frosted glass or use sheer curtains.

Sconce Lights

While natural lighting is great to have not all bathrooms have the option to use a window and during the nighttime they do nothing for people. When this is the case you can use wall sconces that will sit on either side of the sink or vanity. When using these you want to find something that will match the theme in your bathroom while at the same time providing you with the right amount of light.

It is best to use the kind that shine down from the bottom rather then from the top. This will provide you with the best amount of light instead of acting like accent lighting. Also try to use ones that have little to no frosting on the shade. The more they are frosted the more dim the lights will become. These will cost you between $12 to $100 not including installation.

Bar Lights

Bar lights are the best when you want the most amount of light in your bathroom. These have been designed with numerous light bulbs that line up with the length of your bathroom mirror and can be slightly frosted or perfectly clear. There are also types designed with even more bulbs that trace the exterior of your bathroom mirror except for the bottom.

These cost anywhere between $50 to $200 depending on the style that you choose. These are offered in country, modern, transitional, frosted, and brushed steel. Make sure that you measure the exact amount of space you have so they are not hanging over the side of the mirror.

Ceiling Lights

It is important to have the right lighting that surrounds the mirror and vanity – but you also need something that can offer you light to see when in the bathtub. The ceiling light will help to distribute the light evenly throughout the entire bathroom. When you have a much larger bathroom you may want to think about installing two on either end.

The most commonly used are flush mount ceiling lights because of how easy they are to install and how affordable they are. These are designed to use between one to three light bulbs and have a very simple shade that is often frosted. You will be able to find the shades in a variety of shapes and designs that will either distribute the light evenly or make them somewhat dim in the room. Bathroom ceiling lights can cost you anywhere between $20 to $200 not including installation.

Before deciding on any type of bathroom lighting you need to consider the options carefully. The best way to do this is to visit your nearest home improvement store and see for yourself the type of lighting that each can offer. Seeing them being used will give you a better idea of what will offer you the right amount of light for your particular bathroom.
